Visit Dockside Gallery
Surprising though it may seem, Berwick-upon-Tweed still has a working harbour, with small coasters making the tricky, narrow passage into the river and up to Tweedmouth dock (often when the moon is full moon and the tide is high).
Whichever way you choose, this gallery is well worth a visit, full of interesting, fresh, accessible contemporary painting, and unusual, delightful small presents, cards and prints.
Next time you land in Berwick-upon-Tweed, however you get there, take time to cross the old bridge (and to lean over to admire the swans). Then head down Tweedmouth's Main Street, to the Dockside Gallery. If you're driving from the south, take a right shortly after going under the railway bridge, before you cross the Tweed, and the Gallery's on your left.
It may be small but never feels cluttered because the artwork is constantly changing. The choice is eclectic, featuring artists and makers from all over the country. They're in good company, following in the famous footsteps of Turner and Lowry, and who knows who's coming next?
