David Barrow

David Barrow is a self-taught painter based in Lancashire, his worked has developed and evolved over the last 30 years. Local heritage and surroundings are a focal point and inspiration for his paintings. He works predominantly with paint on board and captures moments in time, snap shots and scenarios from everyday life. There is a sense of nostalgia and the narratives for most of his paintings are autobiographical. The style of these paintings is contemporary and simplistic with little or no details, just suggested shapes, forms and silhouettes. This naive style has evolved by experimentation with texture and serendipitous mistakes. The compositions are somewhat traditional in contrast to the simplistic and contemporary style. Colour scheme and textures are an important part of the experimentation process.
