S K Stevens
Award winning artist S K Stevens was born in Liverpool in 1963. She studied Fine Art and History at Liverpool Institute of Higher Education and received a Master's degree in Art Psychotherapy from Goldsmiths College, London.
Working in acrylic, her paintings focus on themes of ruggedness and remoteness in the landscape. By using a palette of spectacular colours she is able to convey the sense of a grand vista. She does not make sketches or work from photographs, instead she draws on memory for inspiration and works directly onto the canvas. She exhibits in galleries across the UK and has work in private collections abroad.
"I aim to respond to a landscape or object not replicate it. The feelings of a place, time spent walking and looking, warm sunshine and pouring rain. I approach each painting with a desire to capture a moment only. A fragment of time, an impression and emotional response that is gone almost before I have time to take it all in”.
