With a degree in Industrial Design, Janet Cleghorn spent 15 years working in textile design and now paints from her home in Galashiels in the Scottish Borders.
Inspired by colour and pattern, she says: "My mixed media still life paintings feature 'treasures' - textile samples, china, old bottles... collected over the years. Fruit and flowers are placed with these to give freshness to the groupings. These arrangements are looked on from an aerial perspective and I work quite methodically from the base completeing one 'level' at a time. The importance of the fabrics and their construction within the paintings reflect my past in textile design. The aerial view allows the shapes to be flattened and refined and traditional subject matter takes on a quirky, more contemporary feel."
