Based in the West Highlands of Scotland, Helen Robertson captures fantastic landscapes and seascapes with pastels or mixed media. She takes a selection of pastels, inks and her camera when she goes out in search of inspiration.
Helen says "For the mixed media works, I use inks and watercolours applied freely, giving unpredictable results, I then draw into this with soft pastels once dry. The depth and richness of colour along with their spontinaeity make pastels my medium of choice. I never tire of the play of light on the mountains, sea and sky. There's no better feeling than being out in the elements, chasing the light as it rushes across the landscape. Drawing outside requires speed and sometimes strength, when battling with a drawing board against the wind. It keeps the marks alive and fresh, not laboured."
